Boating Accident Lake Maloney

On June 12, 2017 at 5: 57 pm, North Platte Rescue, Lincoln County Deputies and Nebraska Game and Parks Officers were advised of a boating accident. The accident was reported near South Beach at Lake Maloney Reservoir. First responders arrived and found a nine year old female had severe injuries to her leg, arm and head. The victim was transported to Great Plains Health, flown to Kearney Hospital for treatment and then on to Omaha for additional treatment. The injuries were reported to be life threatening.

Investigation is ongoing about the accident; initial reports suggest that the driver of the boat was driving very close to the shore line at a high rate of speed. The boat driver was pulling two females juveniles on a flotation device. The driver turned sharp near rip-rap (rocks) on the shore line and the juveniles were thrown into the rocks, causing the massive injuries to the victim. The other juvenile sustained minor injuries.

Upon arrival of Law Enforcement it was discovered the driver of the boat drove the boat away after rescue personal took the victim. Law enforcement located the boat at Frontier Resort. Law Enforcement Officers eventually contacted the suspected driver, fifty-three year old North Platte resident Doug Haney. Mr. Haney appeared intoxicated but refused field sobriety maneuvers. Mr. Haney was arrested for Boating Under the Influence and two counts of Felony Child Abuse. Mr. Haney submitted to a chemical test the results are not known at this time. Mr. Haney was transported to the Lincoln County Detention and incarcerated. The joint investigation with Nebraska Game and Parks is ongoing
