Wild Ride Ended in Incarceration!!

On April 21, 2018 at 11:35 p.m., the North Platte 911 Center received an assault call from a residence in Hershey. The caller reported his daughter’s boyfriend had assaulted him and fled the scene. The suspect and the vehicle he was driving were reported to be westbound on U.S. Highway 30 toward Sutherland. At the time of the call Deputies were in Sutherland working another disturbance. The suspect was reported to have felony warrants from another state as well.

Deputies did locate the vehicle driving west on Highway 30 in Sutherland. A lone Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle and it turned around and came at the Deputies patrol car. Eventually the vehicle accelerated and turned south on Prairie Trace Road and became airborne on the railroad crossing. The driver maintained control and continued south and into an open trail road. The road was in poor condition and the vehicle became airborne again into a group of trees, where it came to rest. The driver fled the vehicle into the river bottom, prior to the Deputy getting there. An extensive search of the area was conducted with the assistance of the Nebraska State Patrol. The driver was not found.

On April 22, 2018, it was reported the driver had returned to the residence in Hershey, NE. Deputies arrived and arrested him without incident. The driver was identified as homeless twenty-two year old Robert Nugent. Mr. Nugent was arrested for; Third Degree Assault, Flight to Avoid Arrest, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Driving Under Suspension and Obstruction of Justice. Mr. Nugent was also incarcerated on a Kansas warrant for Burglary.
