Sutherland Couple Arrested for Child Abuse

On April 10, 2022 Deputies from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office were contacted by the Emergency Department at Great Plains Health. The hospital reported two children age three and six years old were currently being treated for a possible drug overdose.

Deputies responded and found both children were in serious distress. The parents of the children were not present at the time and a grandparent transported them to the hospital.

Later in the day, Deputies met with the mother of the children twenty-seven year old Emily Martin of Sutherland, NE. Ms. Martin was arrested for Felony Child Abuse and placed in the Lincoln County Detention Center. Deputies also met with thirty year old Joshua Holmes of Sutherland, NE who resides with Ms. Martin. Mr. Holmes was arrested for Felony Child Abuse and placed in the Lincoln County Detention Center.

The children were placed in Protective Custody and a search warrant on the property was conducted of the residence. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are likely.
