Stapleton Man Arrested for Assault

On February 28, 2016 Deputies and rescue personal were called to an address on North Classen Road (northeast Lincoln County). The caller reported a female at the residence was struck in the head with the butt of a rifle and a male at the residence was reportedly locking himself inside the residence, possibly barricaded. Deputies met with a female down the road from the residence who said her mother was still at the house and had been assaulted. The female subject said the male also damaged her car.

Deputies met with the victim female outside the residence and found she had severe injuries. She reported the subject who assaulted her was fifty four year old Stapleton resident Sterling Kovanda. The victim advised Mr. Kovanda punched her and then struck her with a rifle in the head. Deputies were able to contact Mr. Kovanda and he was arrested for Felony Domestic Assault, Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony and Criminal Mischief.

The female victim was transported to Great Plains Health for treatment of injuries. The investigation in this matter continues.
