Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest for Drugs and Guns

On October 28, 2021 a Deputy observed a northbound vehicle make numerous traffic violations around mile marker 60 on U.S. Highway 83 (Just north of Wellfleet, NE). The Deputy stopped the vehicle and made contact with the male driver who was identified as thirty-six year old Devin Baker of North Platte, NE. After speaking with Mr. Baker the Deputy believed there were illegal drugs in the vehicle. A Sheriff’s Office K-9 was called and indicated there were illegal drugs in the vehicle.

Deputies did search the vehicle and located approximately 20 grams of suspected Methamphetamine and approximately 70 grams of suspected Marijuana. Numerous items of drug paraphernalia were also located in the vehicle.

As Deputies searched they also located four different firearms in the vehicle, a revolver, SKS rifle, a shotgun and 50 caliber muzzle loader. Additionally a bag of ammunition for all the weapons. Mr. Baker’s criminal record prevents him from owning firearms and they were seized.

Mr. Baker was arrested for: Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony, and Being a Prohibited Person in Possession of a Firearm. He was also issued citation for Possession of Marijuana More than One Ounce but Less than One Pound and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Mr. Baker was transported to the Lincoln County Detention Center and incarcerated.
