North Platte Man Jailed on Numerous Charges
On November 23, 2021, around 4:30 p.m. Deputies were asked to respond to a disturbance at 4005 Rodeo Road. It was reported that a tenant of the trailer court was driving all-terrain vehicles around the court causing a disturbance. Deputies responded to the location and warned the individual about the behavior.
About ten minutes after Deputies left, another disturbance call came in at the same location. Deputies responded and again met with the same subject and several other people in the roadway. Eventually it was determined that thirty-nine year old Michael Mengelkamp of North Platte had created a disturbance. Mr. Mengelkamp was issued a citation for Disturbing the Peace and released.
Around 6:07 p.m., Deputies received another call of a Disturbance near the owner of the trailer courts residence. It was reported Mr. Mengelkamp was now driving a pickup in a very reckless manner and attempting to run over people at the location of 14th and Dodge Street.
Deputies responded and took Mr. Mengelkamp into custody. Mr. Mengelkamp was charged with Willful Reckless Driving, Attempted 2nd Degree Assault, Tampering with a Witness, Resisting Arrest and Assault on an Officer. Deputies incarcerated Mr. Mengelkamp in the Lincoln County Detention Center. Alcohol was involved and additional charges may be forthcoming.
