Two Arrested for Methamphetamine south of Sutherland, NE.

On May 24, 2022 at 5:41 p.m., a Patrol Deputy from the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office responded to the area of Highway 25 and State Farm Road, south of Sutherland, NE. It was reported an individual was burning and did not have a burn permit. Deputies did see smoke and entered the property to meet with a subject at the fire.

Deputies discovered forty-six year old North Platte native, Jeremy Callihan burning insulation off of copper wire. Deputies warned Mr. Callihan about the open burning ban and left the property. The Deputy knew this type of activity was very suspicious and typically other illegal activity is associated with this behavior. Throughout the evening the Deputy researched the area and the subjects stopping by eventually developed probable cause for a search warrant on the property.

Around 11:00 p.m. Deputies did enter the property with a search warrant. Deputies contacted Mr. Callihan and found him in possession of suspected Methamphetamine. Additionally Deputies met with fifty-five year old North Platte, NE resident, Kelly Dike. Mr. Dike was now burning copper wire and a search of his person revealed more suspected Methamphetamine.

Mr. Callihan and Mr. Dike were both arrested and transported to the Lincoln County Detention Center for Possession of a Controlled Substance. The investigation is ongoing and further arrests or charges may follow.
