Update Hershey Shooting

UPDATE:
After considerable investigation Lincoln County Investigators have determined the following:

During the early morning hours of July 11, 2017 nine-teen year old Catherine Ward of Hershey, NE. was physically assaulted by her boyfriend twenty-two year old Taylon Thompson of Tryon, NE., at a location in North Platte, NE. Ms. Ward went to her mother’s home thirty-nine year old Alisha Imler of Hershey, NE. and remained until the afternoon hours of July 11, 2017.

Around 1:55 p.m. Mr. Thompson arrived at Ms. Imler’s residence on East 2nd Street in Hershey, NE and pushed the north door open. Mr. Thompson was emotionally upset and wanted to see Ms. Ward. Ms. Imler’s live in boyfriend thirty-five year old Todd LaHaye attempted to stop Mr. Thompson from entering the house and told him to leave. Mr. LaHaye was assaulted by Mr. Thompson and a struggle began. Ms. Imler attempted to assist Mr. LaHaye with removing Mr. Thompson from their home. At some point during the struggle Mr. Thompson pulled a .40 caliber handgun out and shot Ms. Imler in the hand. This ended the struggle, Ms. Imler, Ms. Ward and Mr. LaHaye all attempted to leave the house out a back door. During this time Mr. Thompson shot himself with the weapon ending the assault. Mr. Thompson died at the scene.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office has determined that Mr. Thompson’s death was a suicide. Ms. Imler was treated for the gunshot wound and released from Great Plains Health. Alcohol or Drugs do not appear to be a factor in this case.
