Hershey Man Arrested for Child Abuse

On July 27, 2017, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Investigators became aware of a five year old girl that was severely burned in Hershey, NE. Apparently the father researched how to remove hair coloring on the internet and found that boiling water and baking soda removes Kool Aid coloring from hair.

The father was going through the process of removing the coloring when the hot water was spilled on the juveniles back and arm. The juvenile was taken to Great Plains Health and transported to Saint Elizabeth Hospital Burn Center in Lincoln Nebraska for treatment. It was reported the juvenile suffered burns up to twenty percent of her body.

Upon her release from Saint Elizabeth the juvenile was interviewed at the Bridge of Hope Child Advocacy Center in North Platte, NE. On July 27, 2017, Investigators met with the juvenile’s father thirty-two year old Travis Cooley of Hershey, NE. Mr. Cooley was charged with Child Abuse Resulting in Serious Bodily Harm through Negligence and placed in the Lincoln County Detention Center.
