Van Drives into Canal

On July 6, 2021 at 6:50 p.m., Deputies responded to the 14000 block of South Cottonwood Canyon Road (South of Maxwell, NE.). The report indicated a northbound mini-van lost control and went into the Central Nebraska Power District canal. As Deputies arrived, the Dispatch Center said the driver of the van had made it out of the vehicle and was on shore.

The Lincoln County Dive Team was called to help with the removal of the vehicle. Deputies with the driver of the vehicle forty-three year old Tucker Mortensen of Tualatin, Oregon. Mr. Mortensen said he just lost control on a curve and slid into the canal, evidence at the scene matched his statement.

Deputies believed Mr. Mortensen was possibly under the influence of alcohol. Mr. Mortensen preformed field sobriety maneuvers that showed signs of impairment. Upon completion of the exam, Mr. Mortensen was arrested for Driving Under the Influence First Offense. At the Lincoln County Detention Center Mr. Mortensen provided a breath sample above the legal limit to operate a motor vehicle. Mr. Mortensen was issued a citation for Driving Under the Influence and released to an adult, as possible injuries from the accident kept him from being able to be incarcerated.
