Two Men Involved in a Shooting

On June 8, 2022 at 3:45 p.m. the Lincoln County 911 Center received a report of a shooting at 10th and Roosevelt Street, North Platte, NE. Deputies and North Platte Police Officers responded to the scene and discovered a fifty-six year old male from York, NE. was shot multiple times. North Platte Fire and Rescue transported the subject to Great Plains Health, he is in very serious condition.

The preliminary investigation revealed the suspect in the shooting drove from 10th and Roosevelt Street to the 1800 block of East 12th Street, got out of his vehicle and shot himself one time. The eighty-four year old male from North Platte, NE. was transported to Great Plains Health and pronounced dead by attending physicians.

Deputies learned the two men knew each other for several years and apparently had an argument just prior to the shooting. This is an ongoing investigation, the names of the two men will not be released until family can be notified.

June 9, 2022

The eighty-four year old deceased suspect was identified as Gary Lehl of North Platte, NE.  The victim of the shooting was identified as fifty-six year old Carl Thompson.  Mr. Thompson was flown to University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha for additional medical treatment.  Mr. Thompson is in serious but stable condition.  The investigation continues in this matter.
