Grand Jury Investigation
On January 15, 2017 at 1:31 p.m., the North Platte 911 Center was contacted by a citizen who advised they had just observed a male subject who had felony warrants crossing the Buffalo Bill Viaduct. North Platte Police Officers responded to the area and noticed a male subject walking southbound on the viaduct. The subject was identified as thirty-seven year old Robert F. Mills of North Platte, NE.
North Platte Police Officers attempted to contact Mr. Mills but he ran south down the viaduct, into local neighborhood. Officers pursued Mr. Mills on foot and noticed he was caring a hand gun. Mr. Mills ran into an alley between Front Street and West Sixth Street, just east of the viaduct. Officers reported Mr. Mills shot himself in the alley. North Platte Rescue was called to the scene, but Mr. Mills succumbed to his injuries.
As Mr. Mills was being pursued by Police Officers at the time of his death, by state statue a Grand Jury Investigation will be conducted. The Lincoln County Attorney’s Office has appointed the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office to conduct the investigation in this matter. The investigation is ongoing.
